Simply put – leadership is about an ability to inspire, align and empower.

These are interesting concepts.

Inspire –
First, you must have the ability to inspire by providing a vision of an endeavor which will engage hearts, minds and efforts.  However, if you do have the ability to inspire, as some do, without obtaining alignment or without empowering those whom you’ve just inspired, you will in fact, quash their ability to fight the good fight for you.

Align –
Alignment is critical if any “vision” is to become reality. Alignment means getting buy-in from those who will be involved at the emotional and task level. It means the troops believe and support your vision and want it to become a reality.

Empower –
If you empower — give the freedom to act — without inspiring the troops to move in the right direction, or getting everyone on the same path, the players may just be ‘empowered’ to march the initiative right off the cliff.
